When David Hieatt, co-founder of the Do Lectures and Hiut Denim, releases a book based on the premise of a simple email newsletter being able to transform a business, people sit up and take notice. And, thanks to a tip off from a friend, I was one of them.
If you've ever wanted to know why email marketing is one of the best ways to grow your business then stop what you're doing right now and buy this book. It will the most important £9 you ever spend.
Email marketing has been my life since 2003. It's how I built my business and it's something I've lived and breathed every day for the last 14 years. Rarely have I come across a book about email marketing that's so easy to understand, a joy to read and genuinely inspiring.
Hieatt reinforces the long-held beliefs I've had about email marketing, developing and expanding upon them in a fascinating way. He covers everything from design and strategy through to voice and growth, from the very basics of why email marketing works through to tactical hints and tips.
Every year I find myself having to defend email marketing from its critics. People say it's spam, they say social media is more effective and they say email is dead. Every year they are proved wrong. Email marketing still delivers the best return on investment of any digital channel. It's still the best way of communicating directly with your audience and, to echo Hieatt, it's the most important tool for growing a business.
That's why I found this book so refreshing in its approach. I can talk about the benefits of email marketing all night long. Of course I can, I run an email marketing business. And my team and I have made it our mission to help people send better email marketing campaigns. Hieatt runs a company who sell jeans and in this book he backs up the belief I had when I first set up Jarrang; that great email marketing is vital if you want your business to be successful. My words may sometimes fall on deaf ears but Hieatt's shouldn't, his story is a authentic as they get and he's telling you the 'humble newsletter is pure and utter gold.'
If you want to start sending out email newsletters or you simply want the emails you are sending to be better but need help doing it then let me know, here at Jarrang, we're always happy to offer advice and point you in the right direction.
Whether you've been doing this a long time like me or taking the first steps towards sending out your first email marketing campaign then I'd urge you to read this book. The same applies to marketers, business owners and entrepreneurs. I guarantee you'll learn something. I did and, as a result, find my passion for email marketing burning stronger than ever before.
